This past Saturday, I decided to try my hand on making a quilt to replace my regular mummy bag. Since I didn’t have any down, I had to settle using loose polyfill for insulation – I found a local fabric source that sold these and it’s the same synthetic fill used on those inexpensive sleeping bags.

Anyway, followed previous posts here and loosely followed the design taken from http://www.lytw8.com. I think it came out ok but the true test will be determining what temp range this would be good for.

Time for some pictures…

Total weight (not too bad I think considering it’s not down)

Hopefully I can get some down soon so I can make another quilt worthy of BPL :)

Great looking quilt.

What materials did you use? It looks like you have the construction methods down pat, so I'm sure your down model will turn out well. Post pics and specs when you're done!

Thanks!

For the top, I used 1.9 ripstop nylon and for the inner lining, I used 1.1 ripstop nylon. The insulation was 100% loose polyester filling – commonly used on cheap bedding quilts or slumber party sleeping bags. I know that in time, the insulation I used on this will flatten but with care, I think I can make this last a couple of seasons.
