Compressing Marmot Precip Jacket

The Marmot Precip laminate is well known for DElaminating at the neck/shoulder areas. I've seen three of them with this same problem.

Your compression trick is probably OK but try to fold it differently each time so you don't create repeated fold stresses on the laminate.

I do appreciate the response. I decided to double check with Marmot this morning and Victor told me that this packing method should present no problems for the jacket.

He did say that he would not recommend long term storage this way, and also cautioned me not to store it wet in the bag, as mildew would quickly form and degrade the coating.

Now that we know it's a safe way to pack, I would encourage anyone reading this to try packing your rain gear this way. I find that compressing the jacket and pants down flat in a 1 gallon zip lock means it can slide easily into the back or brain of whatever pack I'm carrying.

The alternative "fold into it's own pocket" feature is nice, but still bulky and I feel like I'm stressing the jacket every time I pack it this way.
