Sourcing PowerMax fuel

My local REI carries them (usually both sizes) but they're conspicuously absent from the Website. I'd check around locally before jumping, as shipping cartridges is a bit of a pain, at least for the shipper.

Jack, as Rick mentioned check around for a reliable local source. The only place I've been able to find the Powermax cartridges locally is REI. Gart Bros., a local chain used to carry them but got bought up and no longer do. If you can't find anything locally, I think that Coleman now offers some kind of gizmo so that you can hold regular cartridges upside down to use with your Extreme.

Thanks to both…I'll check around. I get the feeling that they're being phased out if they're this hard to find and Coleman is coming up with and marketing a plan B. The fickle pendulum of indeciseness swings back the other way…

I have been surprised at the number of places I have seen the Powermax cartridges lately. None at REI (although I rarely make it to REI, the closest one is 175 miles). But I have found them at places like Bass Pro Shops, among others. Just look around at the different sporting goods stores in your area.

I found the motherlode at a Coleman factory outlet that is on the way to the Smokies (rt 66 off I-40, headed towards Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, behind Smoky Mountain Knife Works). Cases of the stuff (Campingaz as well).
