well i need a pot and pan, large pot for boiling water/snow pan for foods
but i have a great kitchen pot 2litre
as well as a little pan about 20cm's wide
both are stainless steel, i think the pan may be cast iron, but quite light for one if thats so

now i do not have gas canisters etc…i will just be using a fire for heat/cooking

what i want to know is, are these kitchen pot and pan going to be okay with a flame?

im worried either-i will mess up/burn/ruin items (as farfetched as that may be)

and worried they will take longer to heat up/cook food (since this metal is denser and thicker than small light camping ones)

thoughts/opinions/experiences even?

You should be fine with SS. the melting point is sufficiently higher than that of a campfire (2750 for SS vs around 2000F for fire). It won't harm the metal.

My concerns would be:

2L is a huge pot. That's a lot of volume and weight that you're not gaining a benefit from. Unless you're cooking for 4 people. I carry a 1L and it's usually too big.

SS has a fairly low specific heat capacity, it's gonna take a while to heat up, and yanking it out of the fire won't slow the cooking process if you start to burn your food. I guess that's only an issue if you do more than boil water.

Thicker walls won't do you any favors for heating efficiency but, if you're cooking over a fire you built anyway for enjoyment, it doesn't really matter.

I'd use it on a trip, and see. Worst case is that it is inefficient and you look for a better option in the future.
