Hi guys,

I am going to Alaska in the first week of July. I am looking for some information about Ice Harding Field in Kenai Fjords National Park. See if anyone knows it.

I am going to camp at the top of the Ice Harding Field. What kind of weather do I expect? Originally I thought I would take my MSR Hubba Hubba. After calling ranger, I was told that there will be snow on top and it could be windy. Now I am not sure if I should take Hilleburg Nallo 2? How nasty the weather could be at early July?

Hope anyone has been up there can give me some ideas.

Thanks,

Yang

Yang – I dayhiked to Harding Ice Field last July from the Exit Glacier trailhead. Highly recommended. Hopefully the image below comes through. There was plenty of snow, but also a smallish warming hut (supporting post seen in the picture) that you could probably use if the weather got too bad. I'd imagine it could get quite windy given the amount of snow/ice up there.

Thanks Paul. The photo is excellent. I feel so excited to be there soon.

The photo also completely changed what's in my mind. Thanks again to let me know before my trip. I used to think this would be an easy summer camping, but now it becomes winter snow camping. :) I will also need to bring a gas stove to melt snow…
