Hi all,
I've found regular sized air mat (180x50cm) made out of 20D ripstop polyester fabric at local chain outdoor store for ~40$. It has 6 vertical chambers, one valve and it takes few stong puffs to blow up. It rolls down small (think two redbull cans) and takes almost no space compared to my POE Ether thermo 6 and the best thing it weighs in at scant 10.54 oz. on my postal scale. Trying it in the store it felt comfortable and silent if I compare it to Neoar's Xlite which is rather noisy.

My question is would such a mat paired with full lenght 6mm eva mat, or half of Ridgerest be enough for most 3 season use? I remember in BPL staff air mat test they mention that BA clearview with CCF pad should work 3 seasons, or it is best to look away from it and save a bit more to get Neoair small for 80$?

I usually take some CCF as pack frame but I am not 100% sure should I put it on top or under the airmat. I know some put it under to protect the air mat from puncture, others put it on top to get more insulation..

Any thoughts on air mat,
thanks!

For that price … I woulkd definitely try it!a full length 6 mm EVAmat either under or on top – way to go!
I might consider a puncture repair kit …. maybe some McNett PU goo.

Cheers

CCF on top has generally proven to be a bit warmer but CCF on bottom will also provide more protection against punctures and leaks. And of course if your pad leaks it will eventually provide almost not insulation once it flattens out ;)

For $40 it's hard to pass up. I myself picked up a POE pad around the same price and have been quite happy and impressed with it. Sure a NeoAir would have been nice and maybe saved me a bit of weight, but the $$ savings let me buy other weight saving gear too!

Hi,
thanks guys for your thoughts, will have a go at the mat. As you've said for ~40$ and 10.54 oz. full lenght airmat is hard to pass up. With full lenght CCF it weighs in at 15 oz. and should be versatile combo.

About the puncture. Roger mentioned to use Mcnett PU goo, but what sort of patches would stick to the polyester ripstop which is rather shinny, slipy?

Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!
