I'm considering getting a footprint for the Kaitum 3, but I'm not sure if it's necessary/worth it. As it's a quality tent I'm thinking that it's worth investing in the footprint (cost about 90£ in Sweden) for protecting it, although I bought the Kaikum 3 for its light-weight combined with its ability to handle harsh weather/4 seasons. The footprint weight is 0,6kg, so it makes the Kaikum 3 go from 3,1kg to 3,7kg. Is the footprint a nessecity or should I be fine without it? Thank you!

I find cleaning the footprint a LOT easier than cleaning the tent bottom. So I always use it. You can use it only for wet conditions if you like.

Also, I get to use the tent with fly-only mode when it's not bug season. So it's useful in that sense to lighten your load.

check and see if tyvek or some other material of approximate size would be 1) cheaper 2) lighter

if you go that route make sure not to forget the footprint protector (a footprint for the footprint).

Go to Gossamer Gear and get their polycryo ground sheet–or do it yourself. Weighs about 2 ounces and does everything a heavier footprint does except for allowing fly-only option.
