I have a G5 pack that has a few trips on it, but not extensive multi day usage. For pack support and sleeping pad I use a GG nitelight torso pad and a small piece of 3/8 thinlight, as additional pack support, inside the pack. I then put the empty pack under my feet inside or outside a BMW bivy sack. I use an Arc Alpinist quilt and always use the bivy sack. I use a tarp and bivy or just the bivy as my shelter. I will use this configuration for late spring through early fall in the northeast and west.
What do other G5 owners use for their pack support/sleep systems?
Thanks everyone.

pad: NightLightTorso
bag: one of several depending upon temp & weather, & duration of trek.
shelter: depending upon time of year & expected weather, one of several zippered bivies made of either eVENT, Epic, or a GTX type laminate having, over the face, either a wire-hoop or pre-bent Al poles.
Thanks PJ. My thoughts were along the same lines. As funds permit, I’ll expand my bivy and bag selection to meet differant environmental conditions.
I’m doing the Winds in August. Four days North and four South. I’m shooting for an 8 lb. base pack weight. Sans food and water of coarse. Thanks for your input.

Is use a torso length NightLite sleeping pad as pack support.
If traveling alone I use a Marmot Atom bag, if with my “other half” we use a home made 2-person Ray Jardine quilt (with a zip across the middle so we carry half each).
I use a GG Spinnshelter as shelter when traveling solo and a HS Tarptent Squall when traveling as a couple.
I’ve felt that the Nightlight doesn’t provide a very stiff frame on the G5 (even with just a 10 pound load) and have considered also rolling a 3/4 length thermarest inside as a cylinder for additional support. Has anyone tried this?
