My son and I are reviewing our cookware and are keen to get something to carry instead of our stainless steel billy when we are counting grams on longer hikes.

Now my query is does anyone know of a titanium pot/kettle type container that is at least 1 litre (a quart) in volume but with a swing handle like a bucket not a handle on the side like a mug?

I like to have something that can sit on coals in a fire or hang above it from the handle.
I find aluminium just doesn't cope with that kind of treatment well and the steel one is not light enough for longer trips.

The usual thing is to get a pot with no handle, drill two small holes just under the rtim, and to make a Ti wire handle to go thru the holes. Been done many times.

"Ti wire handle"

I found that solid stainless steel wire is cheaper and almost as lightweight. I had to make sure that the wire bail was long enough to allow me to slip a pot lid under it, even with heat and steam around.

Hi Bob

True, very true.
SS MIG welding wire is excellent.

A friend of mine is a race car driver, and he had about a mile of solid stainless steel "safety wire," and it worked good. I think solid works better than stranded.

Hi Jako
Another two possible solutions..
Vargo has a .9 and a 1.3L Ti pot that are the Evernew pots without handles.

Not sure about that non stick coating…
MSR has (had? ) the Titan set including a 1L pot , again no handles and no coating.
From memory the MSR felt strong enough…
Since you are a member here you could put a Wanted ad in the Gear Swap (Wanted 1L Ti pot no handles…)

I think Roger is right and I'll have to come up with a suitable pot and then put my own handle on. I think a steel handle would do (am confident of ability of steel wire to be bent and rebent and rebent etc).
I'll keep looking as not urgent until about January as departure for the AT is early March and that is really when I really want it.
