I don't know where you live. However, where I live, the local community colleges and community adult education places have lots of beginner photography classes.

Otherwise, I have found that most beginners who have bad trouble with their cameras have not taken the time to read and understand the user manual.

Do both of these things, and it works even better yet.

Hello,

First of all it depends on your buget. Whatever camera you buy will be fine. If you think about any DSLR (even entry-level) it will be much better.

One thing you need to bear in mind: it is the photographer who makes picture not the camera. Of course, big sensor and good optics help you reach the quality you are looking for. But the MOST IMPORTANT is the photographer. Not the camera.

On DSLR part grab any of Canon/Nikon/Fuji/Sony/Olimpus. They all great. If you have money to spare (>$3000) go for Canon's full frame (5D mark I/II/III). It's almost best quality you can get.

I would start with something like Nikon 7000/ Canon 50D.

Bigger camera means more weight on trail. And more dealing with cleaning/filter replacement/lens exchanging. It will take some time to know how to use it right, so don't expect a WOW pictures at start. Generally when you start to use DSLR you get BAD pictures. But when you grow and learn you get MUCH BETTER than any point-and-shoot.

It has been four years and I'm STILL trying to understand the user manual! :-)

BTW, wondering why this showed up in "Recent Threads"??? I responded before seeing the date of the previous post.

Which may, of course, be more a reflection on the clarity of the manual…

Cheers
