Does anyone know where you can get smaller pieces of refective guyline similiar to Ketly triptease? I only need 6' or so and everyplace I have found sells it in 50' lengths or charges $12+ for shipping smaller quantites.

Two things I've been playing with to avoid creeping expenditures is to weave a bit of tinfoil into guylines and keeping an eye out for reflective marker pens (so as to 'paint' the back of my softshell whilst hiking on the sides of roads). So far no luck on the latter

I recommend checking out the glowire @ lawsonequipment.com – it makes great guyline and exceptionally bright (blaze orange plus reflective tracer). It's sold in 50ft quantities – I don't think you'll find anyone selling line in 6ft quantities, not online at least (you could try REI or a climbing store and just buy 6ft of 2mm accessory cord, but it won't be as lightweight, and probably not as bright, either). Fortunately, there is no shipping charge for orders over $10. Unfortunately, the glowire is currently on sale for $9.95, so you'll need to add another item as filler to get free shipping – but there's plenty of useful, unique, low cost stuff to choose from.

I second the Glowire, enthusiastically! Great stuff and Lawson has outstanding customer service. Also some great deals on other backpacking knicknacks.

Is the glowire slippery and smooth or is it rough like Triptease? I'm a big fan of Lawson as well. Hopefully he gets some tent stakes in soon and maybe I'll just order 50' of it for $10 and save on shipping.

Glowire has a surface very similar to standard nylon line. Takes knots (including tautline hitch) well. Works well with Line-Locs. I use it as bear line, too–no problem.
