Wondering if anyone out there has seen these? I searched for a topic on it, but I'm no Anna O. No this is not a certified canister, and I'm not suggesting its usefulness to anyone. I'm just wondering if anyone had experience with it, or moreover if 4.5" diameter is really big enough, even for a black bear.

Any real lightweight bear can alternatives are exciting to me, who doesn't hate having to lug a bear can around?

Edit- Just adding, no connection to the company or seller. Saw it on geartrade but can't find it anywhere else.

The way he talks in the first person makes me think its some guy who had a Lamiglass Oar and cut it to length and made a lid somehow. It says three left and three completed orders.

Unfortunately I live on the west coast so I'll have to wait for the W.C. version.

Waaaaaaaay too small to be of any value to me. When my wife and I go on a 3 night backpack we have trouble getting all our food into the largest of the existing bear cannisters. This thing would only hold a few snacks for us.

I suspect that it is quite strong, probably strong enough. The problem I have with it is that a bear could just carry it away. The bear might not get in, but you have lost your food non-the-less.

It's of questionable legality in the Adirondack E. High Peaks, where the requirement is "commercially made container constructed of solid, non-pliable material". I think they would consider it a nicely made home made container. He says it is NOT DEC approved (NY DEC?). It seems small enough that a black bear might get it's teeth around it and break it or carry it away. He says it has an air tight seal which is a nice feature, though after you use it it will have food odors on the outside.

125 cubic inches is 2 liters; it would take careful food choice for one person for 2 or 3 days.

Buying it from someone that made it for resale is commercially made as I understand it.

If using it puts food odors on the outside, wouldn't that make odor proof bags vulnerable?

second the motion that a bear might just walk off with it. The approved canisters are made to be a size that a bear cannot get its jaws around so that it cannot carry the canister away.
