In my long-term search for my first truly light-weight pack, I've spent a lot of time looking at the Gossamer Gear Mariposa Plus and the Six Moon Designs Starlite.
The one downside I see to these relativly large volume packs is volume control.
So is there a reason one couldn't replace the shock cord lacing with non-elastic cord for more effective compression?
Could a spectra/aircore/triptease be used instead of bungee?

Brian uses non-stretch cord on the Amp’s compression system. I assume he does this for the same reason you’d think about it, i.e. better volume control, and he knows what he’s doing with packs. I don’t see any reason why replacing the shock cord with non-stretch wouldn’t be worth trying for the few bucks it would cost you to buy some cord.
