I'm wanting to lose a little weight with my outerwear for use here in the Sierra during the Summer, top only. I currently use a WM down vest and a Polartec 100, long sleeve top, which together weigh 16.5 oz. Good points, they are versatile, wear one or the other or them both when cooler. I like the ls top for mosquitoes and when it is just starting to cool down, then add the vest for later or in the morning while eating or packing up. I've done some looking at Patagonia and other ligher down jackets, seems the Patagonia is a little less wear resistant, but most of these lighter, down jackets still cost close to $200, plus I would then only have one piece that isn't too versatile, unlike two pieces. Ideally, if I could get something from REI to use a upcoming $100 gift card on, that would be great. However, I don't see that REI has much except the Patagonia down jacket. Any light, lower cost suggestions? I have a Marmot Driclime windjacket I use some, and of course a heavier WM down coat with Windstopper material I use in the winter as other options. I'm also thinking of using my WM vest along with a ls shirt, which I would have a spare shirt anyway and would only be gaining the weight of the sleeves, but losing the weight of my ls Polartec 100 top. Thoughts?
