I swear that I had seen a tutorial on how to attach a water bottle cap to the bottle so it doesn't get lost (i.e. nalgene bottles) but I can't seem to find it. Does anyone have a link or guide? Thanks!

Wishing to use the much lighter bottles nuts are sold in:

Bought some small nylon nuts and bolts to go through the caps, and will use inner tube rubber to replace the carboard sealer discs inside the caps.

Will probably put a shock cord loop around the lower bottle neck, but still not sure how to make the connection to the nylon bolt on top of the cap loose enough so the cap will rotate freely. Probably by using plastic washers that will rotate under the bolt. Will have to experiment.

Thanks for that link! I usually follow Jason Klass but I missed that one! I keep losing Platypus caps!

I posted this tutorial previously. You need:

A bottle
Thin cordage
Leatherman with awl or very pointy knife

Take your drink bottle, look inside the cap. You need a bottle with an inner soft plastic "gasket" I'm calling it. Carbonated drinks usually have it. It's a disk that sits inside the cap, and makes a gas seal against the bottle lid.

Long story short, peel the gasket out using your knife tip, use the awl to make a very small hole in the top center of the cap. Insert cordage, tie an overhand knot in the end locking it inside the cap, re insert the gasket, tie the cordage off on the bottles neck. Add another carabiner loop, done.

The gasket keeps a seal separate from the cord, and dirt won't get in or taint your water supply.
