I was playing around with my WM Caribou MF the other day and noticed that it's not a true "sewn through" construction as one's lead to believe from WM's sectional diagram of the construction. The interior and exterior fabrics seem to be attached with a baffle of some sort – it's definitely not sewn straight through. The "baffles" are much smaller than say in a continuous baffle bag, but they're still "baffles" which would lead to greater warmth than a sewn through construction. First clue of baffles: the thread is a different colour on the outside and inside. 2nd, I can feel that the inner and outer shell are "separate" i.e. not sewn together. Can anyone confirm what I'm seeing/feeling. Thanks – just curious.

There is probably a liner on the inside. I expect the actually pockets of down are sewn through, but a liner is sew on the bottom of that. This would be similar to a down jacket with a liner. Just my guess.
I was surprised to find this when I checked it out for the first time too. But you are correct, they are a sewn-thru box construction. But they are only sewn through in one direction (the vertical direction if i remember right) and the other direction (across) they are indeed baffles. WM doesn't really spell this out on their webpage. Although they show a few cross sectional diagrams, you can't tell this. It's a great bag by the way, and I do think it is really a 20 degree bag easily!
I'll have to take another look. The "baffles" were the first thing I noticed. It's an amazing bag as one would expect from WM – beautifully made and ridiculously light. I have yet to sleep in it; I may need to wait a couple more months until summer. In the mountains around here [this time of year] my 0F Feathered Friends Ibis gets all the action. I'm looking forward to pushing it's limits – hopefully there's not too much overlap with my WM Alpinlite … also a great bag. Glad to hear you can hit 20 with the Caribou.
as someone said above, I also found there to be "baffles" in one direction and sewn through construction in the other. I have to say I love this bag. I'm on my 3rd season with it and it has retained its warmth, its loft and its new appearance. The lightest bag I've ever owned and the only 3 season bag I'll ever want again. It packs down so small its almost funny. Definitely recommend this bag to everyone!
