Greetings my fellow backpackers!

I thought if you're hiking in area covered by cell network, taking your cellphone maybe very essential (for emergency, common connection …).
Since I lost my last phone I was curious about having something very effective, light and possible multifunctional. So I came up with the Nokia 1280 phone:

It weight 76 gram (fully charged :D )
You charge it once in two weeks
It has very readable monochrome display
It has great wide angle flashlight. I have actually trail-run with it in night.
It is also your alarm clock and reminder. + all sort of apps like calculator.
It is only $40 phone. Lost it? Not that bad – buy another one!

I'm very happy with it and use it as my primary phone. It's just great!
Maybe you have other options? Tell what phone you take to your hikes.

This phone appears to work everywhere in the world but north america.

Kind of a bummer, as it is basically perfect for a no-nonsense phone to put in your bag and forget for a week.

This phone cannot operate in North America due to dual band or something.
I'm sure there are better minimalist phones however. I bought this one just because it was cheapest available phone.
