RECALL NOTICE FOR A FEW CUBEN TRAILSTAR EARLY MODELS SHIPPED IN 2012
We are aware of a few cuben trailstars that shipped the first of this year that need extra reinforcement on the center tieout used for the door. These cuben only trailstar models can be identified by the black reinforcement patches at the tieouts. Unlike tarps and mids, the center edge tieouts on the Trailstar can be used at extreme angles of pull to form the door and can weaken or tear. We have developed a simple, very strong and asthetic fix. Send back the cuben trailstar and we will fix it quickly and include a free LG cuben stuff sack and a free cuben ditty bag set plus new guyline for your trouble.
Send it regular mail, no insurance or signature needed please. We will fix it and return it quickly.
We are sorry for any inconvience.

Thanks for the notice, Nick. I believe I have one of the affected models, as my trailstar has circular black reinforcement patches at the supplemental tieout points I would typically use to form the entrance.

Just curious, how did you learn about the recall? I could not find any notice about a recall on MLD's website.

We posted it on the MLD "PlaceNook" page today and will be emailing the handful of Cuben TS owners affected over the next few days.

Note that we will be sending about $45 worth of free gear in the return envelope to cover the postage back to us.

I'm one of those affected and just wanted to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to Ron for being a stand-up guy and taking action to notify us and get it sorted. Thanks Ron!

If mine needs repair, and Mike Reid's and Ed Hyatt's as well, could you please make their repairs a bit heavier than mine? You know, USA! USA! and all that…

I saw the recall on MLD's Facebook page. If you're on FB join up. It's quite active with peoples photos of gear in use, links to blogs and updates from Ron. Glad to pass the info along. Kudos to Ron for his forthrightness and backing his gear. I'll be buying more from MLD.

Fear not Doug….our repairs will be heavy on postage costs from the UK :-)

I'm with Jim and Thom on this – I think MLD and Ron are doing a top notch job taking care of their customers.

In fact, I'm so pleased with Ron, MLD and their products, I just ordered another tarp from them!

Nick, thanks for spreading the news!

$45 in free gear. Makes me wish I picked up one from that batch.

FYI: If you bought one second hand you may also send it in for the same warranty fix+ free stuff. We just want all of them fixed-

Yep, great stuff. Even a gear swap buyer like me gets the fix :D

BTW, thanks again, Thom, for parting with such a sweet shelter – this thing a palace compared to my golite poncho tarp!

My Trailstar now weighs a huge 306g after the recall.
I don't think i can manage to carry the extra 3g. :-(
And all i got was a selection of very nice cuben stuff sacks, guyline, and a MLD sticker.
You're a horrible man, Ron.

Wow Mike, you were lucky. I was robbed. I didn't get any MLD sticker! Instead Ron included some fricking bottle of The Macallan when he sent mine back. It's not even a new one, it's, like, 15 years old for crying out loud! So unfair…..

Old malt?
That's feckin terrible.
I'm enjoying a 12 year old Talisker at the moment. Bet it was great when new.
