I'm looking at pack options for my girlfriend for overnight/weekend hikes. I was thinking the Jam 35L might be a nice option. It's on sale now and obviously has a nice weight. I don't think she needs that much support for shorter overnighters where I will be carrying the food, cook stuff, shelter, first aid in my larger pack (SMD Starlite).

Figure she would have some clothes, lightweight down bag and sleeping pad and on-trail water etc. She's 5'4". Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Hi Rob – I posted some thoughts on this same pack over the weekend (link below). The new Jam 35 is a cool pack, but not much comfortable for weight nearing 20lbs in my recent experience. The hip belt is nice, but the shoulder suspension just doesn't cut the mustard. So the question becomes: How much weight will she carry? Are you looking for more of a daypack for her? The caveat with all packs is always to try many, early and often. Comfort is key. But my sense is at 15lbs she should be okay. More than that? Maybe not so much with a Jam 35.

Good luck!
