I'm using a Tri Ti ULC with my backcountry 700ml mug this season, but a simple alcohol stove set up is less fiddly – a modified cat can, aluminum foil wind screen and floor and you're good to go. Fits in your pot, very light weight, inexpensive… Sometimes the simplest and easiest approach is best.

After two seasons using my caldera cone with a Snowpeak 600, exclusively, I am trying the Flat Cat Gear "Snow Leopard, Jr." I like the fact that I can fit windscreen, the 'pins' that act as pot supports, a pot lifter, lighter, stove and protective foil base all in the SP600 pot. I have used it about 10 times on my back porch (elev. 5900 ft.) and I have been impressed with burn time and efficiency. I will be using it in the back country for the first time in about two weeks. The weight is right on par with the Caldera Cone/12-10 stove set up.

I have not done any scientific testing, but it does not seem to be any "better" than my Caldera Cone setup. I just really like the convenience of being able to pack the windscreen in the pot.

The Trail Designs/Caldera Cone Sidewinder titanium stove is nice for ESBIT ( or alky). It comes with a ultralight ESBIT tab holder called the "Gram Cracker" and you can even load two ESBIT tabs in it if necessary.

I have tried and tinkered with ESBIT stoves since the late '70s and NOTHING come close to the effeciency of the Sidewinder or Tri Ti stoves. It literally saves me fuel by about 30%.

Plus, if you later want to get into wood burning the optional Inferno woodburning insert is about as efficient as it gets B/C it turns the stove into a "gassifier" wood burner much like a BushBuddy stove. With the 3 cup aluminum pot design my Sidewinder WITH Inferno weighs in at 3.6 oz. total. "Notta too bad.", as SNL's Father Guido Sarducci would say.

** The only drawback I find is the price but you're paying for sheet titanium and excellent fabrication quality and optimal design arrived at after much experimentation.

Stephen, no doubt you've read about my love of cones and meth stoves elsewhere, i've also several home made wood burning stoves, but my next step is to go with a ti cone, so light but very versatile, and a doddle to use once you get used to it.

I have seen on OM that you are well in to your stoves.
I have a Jetboil Flash and Caledra cone and Primus Omni fuel I have barely used, I always end using my ancient pocket rocket or cheap Chinese remote canister stove :-)

In my opinion CC is too expensive. The base price is $80 (it's without any inferno stuff).
Even if quality materials are considered and good craftsmanship, $80 for single sheet of Ti with holes, 2 stakes and stove from "recycled" materials :) (beer can?) is too much.
But this is only me.

It is expensive alright, I have a Caldera Cone for a MSR Titan kettle (along with along with other kit) but I left it in my mothers back in Ireland on mt last trip home.

Don’s simple can/windscreen system was not as efficient as Alan’s Trail Designs Caldera KEG-H (on right), especially on a windy evening such as this. Note the makeshift windscreen of granite slabs, the pad from Alan’s pack and Don’s BearVault BV500 canister.

Another, slightly hotter fuel tab made in the US is Firelite fuel tabs.
