Apr 23, 2012 at 3:50 pm #1870336Nice job – that will keep you really warm for the weight
Apr 23, 2012 at 7:32 pm #1870447The extra length – you're gonna love it.
I really like your vest.
Apr 23, 2012 at 8:07 pm #1870460Very nice–like the pullover and short zip.
Apr 24, 2012 at 9:32 am #1870608I am about the make the exact same thing with my last bit of the kelty green group buy on TiGoat's website. I am excited about the 5.1 oz weight. I am debating between a more athletic cut and a full zip or a little more lose fit and a 1/3 to 1/2 zip.
Are you happy with the lenght of your zipper?
Apr 24, 2012 at 9:45 am #1870615I use a similar vest although heavier.
I think a full length zipper is much better because it allows you to better regulate warmth so you don't overheat and sweat.
Full length zipper might add 1/2 ounce?
Apr 24, 2012 at 12:06 pm #1870657Good point Jerry, thanks. Versatility was my original reason for the full length zip, but I do like the simplicity of my 1/2 zip winter down pull over. Full zip it is. Now I just have to make it, the insulation came in yesterday so any day now I will start putting it together.
Did you only need to sew Apex to the fabric around the edges to get it to stay in its place all the time?
Apr 24, 2012 at 2:06 pm #1870694@Jeremy Osburn – Are you happy with the lenght of your zipper?
Yes I like half zipper (got half zipper on merino hoody / BPL cocoon / wind shell…)half zipper pros:
warmer
lighterhalf zipper cons:
harder to make
no athletic cut
@Jeremy Osburn – Did you only need to sew Apex to the fabric around the edges to get it to stay in its place all the time?Ohh yes ! Apex don't need any quilting.
I got a MLD Spirit quilt made with Climashield Apex for 2 years : not any quilting & Apex hasn't moved.Apr 27, 2012 at 12:40 am #1871777Climashield is the very best choice of synthetic insulation.
Congrats on a good design that is well executed.
