40F rated cheap light bag/quilt

Get the Golite. (I assume you mean the 800 fp 1+ season quilt, not one of the bags.) Sure, it's 7 oz heavier, but very nice for the price. How much more will you spend to save those 7 oz? When you get your other gear, offer the Golite for $100 or so. You've just rented a decent sleep system for ~$30–how much will that be per night?

You might consider something like an Elightened Equipment RevelationX quilt, around 16oz and $170, and probably slightly warmer than the PHD bag:

IF you're open to spend a little more, you could ask Tim Marshall about getting a regular Revelation in the new 8d fabric, which I think cuts an ounce or two off total weight. Cost of that is same as the cost listed under current Revelation page, around $230 :

+1 Enlightened Equipment, if the wait time is acceptable. Some day, I'd like to own one of Tim's quilts–they seem to have an excellent reputation. In the mean time, I really appreciate how generous Tim is with his time and information on these forums, esp. with MYOG information.

full 8d saved 3oz on a revelation 6' reg 40* overstuff. that quilt weighed .1oz more than an identical in 7d and .2 less than identical in M50.

for $135 our ProdigyX in 3.3oz HL is light and packs small, not down small but not bad and as a gap filler to your other bags saves you some money. not over the golite sale but cheaper than any regularly priced options.

I would think $100+ would easily ship a bag here from the UK. Unless you are diversifying :)

yeah I went for a walk this evening (ooh my new trail shoes are soooo comfy) and yes, I realized exactly that. When the cheap bags are the same weight and 10F rated higher its just a waste of $ to pay anything and yes, I can ship the bag here for say $10-$15. I'm going to do that. I was disappointed though at the prices, even brands like Montbell I thought were good value.

So FYI my bags are a PHD Minim 300, no zip (which is a darn good idea) which is 40F rated, a PHD Combi bag rated 30F (with zip), the combi is over-sized and you put over the Minim, the rating then is about -5F to 0F region. And I believe PHD's ratings, they're on the conservative side. I'll post the Minim over it will do from now til winter and bring Combi over in my next flight. Sorted.
