Your right i dont want to take the frame out unless im going uberlight. What i could do though is drill some extra holes in the plastic frame to lighten it up 1-2 ounces.

You could do that, but I'm not sure you'd save that kind of weight. The best solution I've seen so far is the hoop stay idea. The large stay should fit just right in the regular pack. That said, that's a lot of work to put into saving about 3 ounces (based on my measurements). If you wanted to shave that kind of weight, then the Crown may not be the right pack for you.

Personally, I've decided that it needs to be considered a framed pack like the Vapor Trail. I just don't think it can go frameless.

The Peak Elite AC inflatable mattress is only 12 oz. I got that instead of the NeoAir. It's comfortable sleeping on my back or side. It's narrow, but I don't have any problem staying on it. For sale at Hikelight. I'm too old to sleep on a Ridgerest or Z-rest alone these days. ;-)
