I have a 2003 Osprey Aether 60, a 63L (3900 cu in) pack. It's a decent pack and gives me little trouble except for one (1) thing that bothers me: I have a bit of a bubble-butt and the bottom of the pack tends to ride on the top of my buttocks. In Ye Olden Days of exterior-frame packs, the waistband wrapped around the waist entirely, and the frame hung from it. A bit of rearward curving at the bottom of the frame got the bottom of the pack off me butt.
But on this pack, and all the frameless or interior frame packs I've tried, the waistband is integral to the bag, so the bag ends up resting atop my fundament. Near as I can tell, there is no way to drop the suspension (i.e., raise the bag) to get it off my behind.
I hope this makes sense.
So I'm casting around, looking for a good lightweight pack of 63L or maybe a little bigger. I probably won't every carry more than 30, 35lbs, and I'm 5' 6''. I'm not picky about brand names, and though I do like to help cottage manufacturers, I'd buy some mass-produced pack on account of I'm kinda broke.
