Last night I strolled into REI, 20 minutes before they closed. I was peeking around, killing time, eyeing the pads and sleeping bags when I grabbed at the store-brand Igneo…i like the feel so much I shocked myself by crawling inside it and zipping it up! It felt great, roomy (+1), warm, lofty. It has a yoke, I was skeptical. The zipper (3/4 btw. It says FL, but I was in the reg and it real seemed short) was backed with a horrendous vinyl-feeling nylon strip, but I tried all I could to snag it. No snag. It says its rated en to 19°, that it weighs 1lb 15oz, and it stuffs wicked-small for a bulky-ish down bag (i find rei has very thoroughly constructed china-wear, it can make mods tricky-leading to hacky jobs sometimes). The point: I BOUGHT IT. with my dividend and coupon, it cost $202. My first thoughts are "how can I get the yoke out, how can I get the zipper-backing off, was this bag worth it, how light woulf it be if it were reassembled as a quilt and will the wpb shell breath enough/be worth it?" Ill test it a bit to see if its worth modding or returing, if anything I at least have a shoulderseason bag. But im having trouble stomaching a barely sub-2lb bag for 3season use…i sleep a bit cold, especially a couple nights out. Maybe I can bring lighter sleep socks? Its getting used in washington all year so…..
Any thoughts?
