Jetboil sol Ti question

Seems weird. Try it with another canister of fuel to verify it isn't the can?

It's not the can. It's nearly full and I hooked up my snowpeak gigapower canister stove to it and it works normally.

I think I'm going to return my stove. I also noticed that the valve regulator seems loose, ie when it's partially open It has quite a bit of play where it enters the stove body.

I'd take advantage of REI's great policy and take it back and try another…

I’ve played with a couple of the Sol burners. Yours sounds a little weird. Probably no big deal, but you might take it back just to be safe.

I took my old Jetboil PCS burner out the other day. The PCS feels really klunky compared to the new Sol burner. The one thing I notice about the old PCS burner though is that the valve action is smooth and continuous. The Sol’s valve action down in the low range is really wonky. Turn it up and the flame goes down. But unlike your burner, the wierdnesses that I encountered were all on very low flame settings.

That's definitely not something my Sol Ti does.

I've decided I'm going to exchange it for another. Yes, it doesn't sound normal.

On another note, the instructions say to use a medium heat setting. Do you guys/gals set it on full blast or something in between?

I never use mine on full blast – low to medium for me. Seems to boil plenty quick for me at that. Usually by the time I dump my Via and some creamer/sugar into my cup, the water is already at a full boil…

I think you should take any warnings from Jetboil seriously. There have been some problems with the aluminum heat exchanger on the Ti pot melting.

Now, is that happening right and left all the time? No, but that’s an awfully nice, expensive piece of gear. Again, I’d take what JB says seriously. More on the issue of Jetboil Sol Ti heat exchanger melting.

Yes its a dud, hope REI has stock to swap for you quickly.

the supplied 0.8L pot comes to boil so very fast at full throttle you can boil over in a daydream, have it mid-way down.

full-throttle would be a hurry boil need if say you used the pot support and a larger pot or if you bought say the Sumo companion cup for group. Or say in very cold conditions as the pot will be radiating its heat away and risk taking more fuel to get to a boil.
