Hi folks,

This maybe a stupid question, but do folk that sleep cold require a warmer sleeping mat than warm sleepers.

Thanks,

Stephen

I think it is the most critical item for warmth in a sleep system. Have you seen the new exped UL Downmats? Pretty swanky!

The sleeping pad warmth should be similar to the warmth of the sleeping bag/quilt.

I learned the hard way when I used a not so warm pad on a winter trip:-)

I've used the ProLite with a 32 F. Western Mountaineering bag and was OK at 24 F. in terms of not getting cold from the ground. I did have to wear all my clothes to
stay warm in the bag.

Also I used that same pad and bag at 15 F. with medium polyester long johns and ThermoLite insulated jacket and pants and was still warm. Maybe at that temp the Thermolite suit negated any coolness from the ground but the pad seemed OK.

Hi Eric,

Sounds like the thermolite added some insulation under you.

Cheers,

P.s. posting on my phone so hence the short replies
