I'm about to pull the trigger ordering a granite gear crown vc 60 but I can't try it on locally and I don't know which size to get. I'm exactly between sizes, I have a 21 inch torso. The regular is 18-21 inches and the long is 21-25 inches.

Does anybody else have the pack? What size do you guys have? What is your torso length?

I have a Regular, and the actual torso length (middle of the hipbelt) to shoulder straps is 17.25" and 19.25" from the bottom of the hipbelt to the shoulder straps (how manufacturers typically measure them).

Sounds like you need the Long.

I encountered this issue recently also. One friend measured my torso at 21, another at 20, and a lady at the Roseville CA REI measured it at 16.5 The Sacramento REI measured my torso at 20. I think the 16.5 measurement was an anomaly. Will the real torso measurement please step forward! I have a regular GG Nimbus Meridian which fits me fine, but it may be sized differently than the Crown. I emailed Granite gear, told them my torso was 21 and I was 6' 190 lb. and they recommended regular unless I have a chest like a gorilla, which I don't. I ordered a regular Crown directly from Granite Gear in Minnesota. My Crown is currently in transit, but it may arrive in time for an Easter Weekend backpack in the Ohlone wilderness area near Fremont CA. If I get it in time, I will find out if it fits me and report back.

I'm with you John. Someone at REI tried to measure me at a 16" torso. Technically, they were right–I have extremely high iliac crests, topping out about an inch above my belly button. What she failed to see was that it would do me little good to have the bottom third of my back hanging out below a pack.

What I really like about the Crown is that it has a pretty excellent wrap-around hipbelt that makes it easy even for someone like me who wears a hibpelt a little lower on my hip bones to get really good weight transfer.

As to your true hipbelt, ask yourself where you prefer to carry the pack, then measure that. Especially if your physiology doesn't fit the typical pattern.
