Patagonia Puff Pullover or Montbell UL Thermawrap?

Sorry to complicate things further, but check out the Rab Xenon as well. That's what I'd go for of the three (I really like a hood).

Nanopuff and Xenon are 60g, so a bit warmer.

OK, now that I looked at the price of the Rab, I'm sticking with my first two choices.

Ive owned both. I have the full zip nano puff instead of the pullover though. They're very similar, cant go wrong either way. Basically the same warmth (both 50g I believe?). Nano puff has primaloft and Montbell uses their own insulation, so technically the Patty is "higher quality", I doubt you'd ever notice the difference though. I ended up keeping the nano puff and selling the thermawrap mainly for looks and because it didn't make sense to keep both (I had the Montbell first and won the nano puff in a contest later). The thermawrap looks like a space jacket (very shiny, like a trash bag). If you think you'll wear it around town this matters, if you're only wearing it in the woods it doesn't. Bottom line, they're both great, can't go wrong either way, both very warm. I can take them down to the 20s with just a t shirt under. You should find a store that has both of possible and try them on to see which fits better. I bought a large in the Thermawrap and medium in Nano Puff (I'm 6 foot 150).

I've tried both, and prefer the cut of thermawrap (a little slimmer, while the nano puff kind of ballooned out on me). My nano puff also seemed to have stitching that frayed pretty quickly, so I returned it. YMMV, of course.

I don't own this jacket, but has anyone considered an ArcTeryx Atom LT. It uses 60g/m2 insulation and is lighter and cheaper than the Patagonia. Lots of people seem to like this jacket – though I haven't heard many people on this site mention it. Maybe it's not really in the same league as the two you are looking at. I really have no idea. I have other Arc stuff and it's all top notch. Personally I carry a down jacket with me backpacking.

11 ounces, has a hood, but the arms are not insulated….

1. all other things equal the patagucci will be warmer providing it fits you .., there is simply more and better insulation in it

2. the atom is a good piece if you plan to wear it on the move in cold cold temps … however for a static layer its not ideal as there are fleece panels on the sides … it may however fit certain people better … nor is it that cheap either

3. that NF looks like it just has insulation in the body … you might as well get a windshirt and a puffy vest in that case IMO … more flexible

ultimately most of these things work the same … hell even ll bean makes a copy, and i use a somewhat heavier and warmer 19$ old navy "UL" puffy …

my view is to get what fits you and is on sale … and has a good warranty … if you want the "best" get one with PL1 insulation …

I've owned both and like the MBTW better because it is warmer,breathed better and is lighter. My 2 cents on the MBTW are also posted in a trail space review. I've owned the MBTW since 2004. To date I've traveled warmly to the following places with it: Southern Japan (bike commuted all seasons while in the Navy) and Korea, Seattle Washington(early spring), North Chicago area(fall), Southern Catskills- NY(winter,spring,summer,fall),Iceland and Sweden(in late august),and Boston area (winter,spring,summer,fall). I bought the NP thinking that it might be warmer & have newer technology. It was not, and was more sweaty when snow tubing in the Southern Catskills, I'm solidly thinking about upgrading to something with a hood lately in order to get what I think may be a 10 degree increase in comfort (MBTW Parka,RAB Xenon,or Arc'terx Atom LT). I'm warm in the MBTW with a merino l/s anywhere above 30 degrees. This temp is extended lower by hats,wicking base layers and mid layers,and hooded wind shirts.
