PyraNet 2 options for use with Trailstar

For buggy camping I have been very happy with my PyraNet2. John at Bearpaw Wilderness Designs is very helpful. I called him up and told him what I intended to use the shelter for and he gave me some good suggestions. As you can see in the picture, I went for the cuben upgrade on the sides. The coverage of the Trailstar is so good that I didn't feel I need to go any higher for the "splash gaurds". I also opted for a second door (you can see it in the second picture, by my wife's left shoulder). This is often handy to access gear that you may choose to leave outside the netting. Finally, I opted for side opening doors so that the door doen't end up lying in the mud.

If I had it to do over again, I would ask for a little loop to be sewn in the middle on the two sides of the netting, so I could use shock cord to attach to the mitten clips of the Trailstar. This could pull the netting on the sides out a little further. This would be more of a "want" than a "need" kind of thing.

The setup takes a little practice. I panicked after setting it up the first time and thought I had ordered the wrong shape. Once I got it figured out, it works very well.

The only real issue with either a single rectangular inner or a double rectangular inner (with an opening for the center pole, of course) is that it is a rectangle under a pentagon. It just won't fit absolutely 100% perfect.

I sometimes use a SMD Serenity Nettent with my TS, and I usually find that the outer rear corner is fairly close to the tarp's edge. Not a huge issue, unless there was some serious driving rain & wind, I think.

BearPaw also makes the PentaNet, made specifically to match with the TS. Oookworks in the UK also makes a matching 5-sided inner.
