My friend wants to go backpacking with me. The problem is He's 6'7" tall. Any recomendations for him? I was thinking a tarp or special ordered tent, what about the bag? Thanks

There are a few Tarptents that will fit him. I would look at the Tarptent Rainbow.

The bag? I would go with a custom quilt. Maybe Enlightened Equipment?

My 6'6" should actually be fine to 6'8" but as David said I could do custom for him no prob.

I'm 6'5" and do fine in a Tarptent Rainbow. I think there's enough additional room to accommodate 6'7", though he'll have to be a bit careful not to slide around very much when there's condensation. There's a lot of clear length in the middle, but the ceiling is lower near the corners.

Sleeping bags might be a little harder to find. Most brands sell a "long" version that typically fits up to 6'6". I've never gone searching for anything longer.

I am obviously biased but:
Take a look at the LightHeart Gear SoLong 6. It is 100 inches long, has 30 square feet of floor space and 45 inches of headroom.

A good rule of thumb on floor length for folks ~6'6" is about 90 inches, but will depend on the slope of the tent walls. SoLong 6 would work great, the Rainbow would probably work as well at 88" since doesn't have steeply sloped walls. I have read the Skyscape series of tents are very height friendly as well. Good price at $125 for the Scout version.

I also have a Lightheart Gear Solong 6. I'm about 6'3" and this tent was made to fit someone about 6'8" tall. Should fit your friend and adds some additional space on the sides as it is not a rectangular floor. Judy has different colors so you can customize the tent to your own liking, and can get it made with sil-nylon or cuben.

There are many good quality tents available to fit the tallest camper. Marmot, North Face, REI all make 1, 2+ person tents with dimensions and weight that are solid for folks this size. Gargantuangear.com carries sleeping bags in tall size ranges and have a 100% satisfaction guarantee for life. They will carry tents in summer of 2012 and have a good amount of other unique tall and big outdoor gear items that can help the tall and big camper have a great time. They actively sign people up as G-gear (short for Gargantuan) Advisors, so sign up and take the survey. You get a discount and can have a say in what they carry in the future. Best wishes on your next outdoor adventure!

MSR Skinny ONE or Two is the longest tent I have had. I am over six foot and there was loads more room.

I have the Six Moons Design Lunar Duo. At 6'3" there is plenty of head and foot room.
