Reg. or Long bag for 6′ tall?

I am 6'3" and use a long in a Megalite and Badger. I would get the regular if I was 6'0"

Don't forget to factor in whether or not you plan on storing items at the foot of the sleeping bag. For example, when its very cold, you might throw in a hot water bottle, your stove gas canisters, inner boots if you're using plastic double boots for mountaineering etc. In that case, you should go with the long. My 15 degree bag is a long for that reason alone, although I'm only 5'9".

I have a montbell ul super spiral down hugger #3 long, which is rated for someone who's 6'6". I'm 6'2" 220lbs, and it fits me nicely(for a mummy bag) with a little wriggle room, but I can't imagine it would fit someone who's 6'6" too well, if it all. It's been my experience almost every textile not made in USA, runs very, very small. So, I would definitely try the bags out first.

Just like you, I'm 6'0 but heavier @ 200lbs. I have the regular megalite and it works fine for me. Can't speak for the others mfgrs. but WM bags measurements are just as advertised, nothing more-nothing less. The regular Megalite is fine, but given the chance to do it again, I'd get a long. Like Konrad mentioned, being able to stuff an item or two into the bag is never a bad thing. The only penalty with the long WM is 1oz. and more money. You also gain another 1" in the shoulder measurement. Being broad shouldered as well, these are all positives!

Go with a long and you will be set…if not, we can trade, I live and use these in the Utah backcountry as well :)

I'm 6'0" – 6'1" and I always go long. When I side sleep or sleep face down, my toes usually point to the bottom end of the bag. The extra length is used by me. Minimal weight penalty for some comfort, IMHO.

Rab makes the Neutrino line of bags. They only have one size that fits to about 6'4". I'm 6'2" 210 and my Nuetrino 200 fits well. It's a nice offering for those at 6' or slightly taller.

You can find Rab on sale and get a good deal as well.

Try them out.

My suggestion is regular though, but you should try them.

The Marmot will be easy to find in a store (REI has them). The WM might take a little more effort.

I'm 5'11" and have regular sizes in both WM and Marmot bags. I'm probably not as broad as you though.

Definitely try them both out if you can. I am 6'1" 165lbs. and have two Western Mountaineering bags. My 6' Alpinlite fits me really well, probably because of the extra width that allows me to slightly bend my knees (the Megalite is cut the same way). However, I tried a regular length WM Caribou and found that it was too short to get the hood to fit and I had to really 'try' to fit in the bag. I now have a long version of the Caribou which works much better.

What I am taking from it, is that I really should try and find a way to try the bags if I can. I was actually in an REI store today and looked, but they didn't have a Marmot Hydrogen out and of course no WM bags. It occurs to me only now that maybe I could have tried a different model of Marmot mummy bag to get some idea?

Assuming I don't get to try them, what I am now thinking is that I probably shouldn't pass up a good deal on a used regular bag, but if buying new (without benefit of trying prior), I may as well get the long.

Dave, if you're looking to try a WM bag on for size, check out Kirkham's on about 31st. and State in Salt Lake City. They usually have a Megalite and others that you can try. More dealers are listed on the WM website.
