I used to get bad chaffing between my upper legs (from rubbing) on long treks. After moving to a biking short with spandex under my regular trekking shorts, the problem has gone away. However, the biking shorts I have are way too heavy.

Any recommendations for a spandex weave type short that is 2-3oz or less?

Good way to frighten others on the trail.

But yet…I am tempted….

Thanks guys (and gal).

Eugene – do you find that they ride up the leg any or with the Bodyglide, it won't really matter?

I wear them for all 4 seasons. I like the version with the ventilated front panel. I've worn other compression shorts and the heat gear are my favorite.

Ex Officio Boxer Briefs work well for me. Like Eugene, I cut out the liner of my Patagonia Baggies. The Baggies have awesome deep side pockets, wear well, and breath well.

I have a pair of TNF Voracious 2 in 1 shorts that I really like. They have a really thin compression liner built into the shorts, and Ive had no chaffing issues since wearing them. The drawback is that to change into or out of base layer bottoms means that I have to fully nude up, which can be kind of inconvenient…

Not to mention embarrassing. Chicks just don't buy the "Hey! It's cold out here!" excuse in the middle of August…..

I don't walk without my under armor heat gear pants on.
No chaffe on the thighs at all.
As an aussie with hot weather chaffe can be savage. Mine are the vented front ones.

Just put a light pair of shorts over the top and your good to go (unless you just hike in tights……)

Just buy some body glide. it comes in a stick like deodorant. much better than petroleum jelly, ie not smeary, stays in place, etc at reducing friction, etc. then you don't need special clothes. look for it in triathlon or running stores.

I tried that alone and still got some chaffing. The running short scenario worked much better for me.

I have some of the long cap 1 patagonia underwear that was referenced earlier. I have had several pairs for about 3+ years. I hike about 5-10 miles weekly and chafe without them. These have held up tremendously and I would suggest them more than anything else. Coupled with gold bond powder, you'll never chafe.
