when i got my double rainbow last week, i was a little worried. hawaii doesn't have your typical 4th season weather, but i like to camp on windy ridges. problem with the double rainbow is, the edges stay a small bit higher from the ground than i would like. so, here is my fix.
i used an old aluminum arrow, scavenged from the back of an archery range, that happened to be about the same width. the normal pole sections are 18 inches, i dremel cut mine down to 12. then i stretched out one end of the long pole, tied off the shock cord with a trucker's hitch on a stake, and removed the last piece. this piece has no silver inner tube. when i did this, i also undid the knot and left it off. i torched the tip of shock cord to keep it from fraying. then i replaced it with my new arrow shaft piece.
this is the result. it has a similar effect to lynn tramper's post about digging holes in the ground. a little extra protection for .4 ounces, and it's easy to change back.
