So I have started lining the main compartment of my pack with a trash bag. But what about the front pockets? I suppose I could just put things in plastic bags and put them in the front, or possibly find some kind of waterproof liner that fits the specific front pocket well.
What do you guys do? My phone and headlamp usually go in the front pocket.
Most of the items I put in front or side pockets don't need to stay dry so i don't worry about them. However for things that need to stay dry I put them in a ziplock bag. Sometimes all in one large ziplock or sometimes seperately (depending on what they are).
PS: I replied to your post about your altitude problems. You might want to look at it.
Not for the entire AT… but for a week-long trip or less, I use pint size ziploc bags without any problems.
I may be flogged for saying this, but I still use a pack cover to keep the items in my front and side pockets dry. My cuben fiber pack cover weighs 1.2 oz and I will probably get a size small for my Zero pack once it gets here (hopefully any day now…) The small will weigh 0.8 oz. True, they are heavier than a Ziploc, but hey, I like it…
