Hi guys,

Moving into fast and light climbing, im looking to get a pair of insulated pants for those big single push technical climbs.

I have got the following requirements:

– im 165cm, or about just under 5'5" with a 30 inch waist. So a short length (especially if it has articulated knees) is needed.
– primaloft as a filling (no down)
– full side zippers
– as light as possible

I have been looking at the Arcteryx Atom LT pant, in their 30 inch wiast has a 28.5 inch inseam, so far thats the leading contender.

Your suggestions please!

Cheers,
Siggy

Something does not compute here. Did you miss some numbers?

What i meant Bob,

Is basically cos im short im in need of shorter cut brands. I have a 30 inch waist.

Most brands out there like MHW use the regular 30×30, which is just a couple of inches too long.

The Arcteryx Atom LT is the only pant so far that i know of in a shorter inseam, coming in at 28.5 inches.

Im just after any info on other brands/pant models if anyone has had any experience.

best regards,
Siggy

Hi guys,

what a silly mistake iv made. Im just so not used to the imperial measurement system, these things creep in.

yes, im just under 5'5" height.

I'm a big fan of the outdoor research neoplume pants. They are not the warmest pants, but they are a well thought out compromise between warmth and bulk/weight. I need a lot less insulation for my legs to stay warm than for my torso. I like them because they pack so small I am never tempted to leave them at home.

On the other end of the spectrum are the integral designs denali pants. These are heavy weight go almost anywhere pants. They are very warm. There is a pair of the not for retail government issue on ebay right now in size small. ID doesn't make a civilian model of these pants anymore, but there are retailers that still have them in stock.

What conditions do you see yourself in?

Hi Richard,

These would be used in the NZ alps during the winter season, Winter in the euro alps and Alaska in summer to throw over the top of softshell pants when the going gets cold, or on belays.

Im hoping to find something just below 500g's….i am Aussie, please forgive the metric system that i use.

When you say alaska do you include Denali? Staying sub 500g may be tuff. In regards to your sizing needs, you should contact beyondclothing.com . They will do made to measure primaloft pants.

woah?!

when it comes to pants iv been using softshell's made by Beyond, for the simple reason that they do custom clothes, and the fit has totally been worth the extra $50 over the mainstream brands or so and the 4 week waiting period. however, on their website they dont offer primaloft pants.

I think you may have me convinced here mate to send them an email!

PS: Im hoping to tackle The Moose's Tooth possibly next year…..but that is, if the weather permits.

They do/did make primaloft pants, the pl5. They don't always have everything on their site. Maybe if you google it.

"Is basically cos im short "

Siggy, don't say that you are short. Your legs reach all the way to the ground, don't they?

hi, for NEXT winter, so plenty of patience for a sale, I'm looking for something like the Pata micropuff pants.

What is the fit like for someone with chunky thigh problem like a cyclist's build?
