Thanks for your response. Looking at a photo of the tent on their website, it appears that it was definitely a fabric failure, not just a seam issue or a pullout issue.According to the website, it is a 10 denier material with a PU coating. A number of sources, including Editor Roger Caffin, suggest that low denier nylon will be more prone to rip with a PU, as opposed to silicone coating. Also, 10 denier is quite low for a material that will be exposed to wind blasts on a tent fly.
That you did incur such a failure is very helpful to know in trying to reach a balance between strength and weight in selecting material for an MYOG tent. Much appreciated.
