I am wanting to go from a Patagonia Pullover Torrentshell (8.875oz) to a OR Helium (~5oz) to make up for my addition of some Goosefeet socks(2.9oz). The problem is that where I hike is often off trail and involves a lot of bushwhacking. The torrentshell has held up like a champ, and I am wondering if the Helium at 30D could also take a good amount of abuse. Clearly, I want my cake and to eat it too

I own a Torrentshell pullover, and recently just picked up a Helium. I found the Torrentshell to be pretty bombproof as well, and I did a lot of off-trail hiking.
What made me happy about my decision to switch to the Helium was the article published here on BPL recently about the SOTMR on waterproof jackets. The Helium got an A on durability, so I think it will be fine for what you need. My Torrentshell in M weighed 9.2oz, so its a nice drop in weight too.

And rightly Eric. Had OR properly cleaned and sterilized the down before stuffing it wouldn't have smelled so tasty to the pooch ;)

Haha, actually that is pretty phenomenal of them, good to know since I too am looking to replace a winter GTX Pro shell with a MUCH lighter OR Helium in the coming months.
