Im interested in feedback on the Brooksrange Alpini 30 bag.
11.7 oz fill, compared to 9 for the summerlite, leads me to believe its a real 30F rated , if not slightly lower, bag. But really no mention of it on here.
With the new ridiculous Summerlite pricing of $345 for what is really 35 degree bag, $319 for the Brooksrange looks to be a much better deal.
hard to believe no one here knows anything about a 30 degree rated, 23oz, 11.7oz fill 850+ down, pertex shell, bag from a top quality mountaineering gear mfg and maker of down jackets.
The pic on the website doesnt look too puffy, but others do, thats kind of worries me. .
In any case, can order and return to them no questions asked so I may just have to do that to check it out.
What appeals to me is its slightly roomier than the summerlite, 2.7 oz more fill so definitely warmer, and now, $25 less after WM raised their prices. I can actually get an ultralite for this price, but its too much bag for summer. Thats practically the same fill as in my Megalite, which is much larger, so Id bet this is a 25 degree bag in reality. (I dont need a new bag, but looking for my son)
Your analysis sounds good to me…I don't have any experience to offer. BR is a well-reviewed brand in general.
Comparing fill weight to other bags is a good idea. EN testing helps to standardize this. Make sure dimensions/girths match closely too. EN-tested bags off the top of my head include REI, Marmot, and Rab. Make sure down quality is similar across comparisons or correct for it.
Western Mountaineering and Feathered Friends are non-EN tested brands that usually make good comparisons.
WM is en-rated if you look for it on the euro sites
