John: Just caught your comments on these. I am planning a trip to the ADK's over Presidents Day weekend and the concern has been voiced that the aluminum model will not be appropriate for this use for two reasons. One, the points are not sharp and two, the rocks will wear them down. Have you tried them above timberline?

Where are you planning on going in the Adirondacks? Are you headed toward the High Peaks area- ADK Lodge, Keene Valley area? Certainly a beautiful area in Autumn; I haven't been there in winter however.

From the wear I've seen so far, it's going to be awhile before they wear significantly. I use them on the ridges of the Long Trail and similar terrain…some significant rock, but not entirely. You might note that Andrew Skurka used them for his 400 mile Minnesota trek. Like I said, the you may prefer the steel version. Theres a recent gear review on the steel in BPL.
