So I think I might like to try out a breathable bivy w/ bug net. I like many of the theoretical advantages especially bug protection and small tarp camping. My only bivy experiences were in the mid nineties. I used a simple goretex bivy. I know that gore tex is not really breathable and I would wake up with a damp bag shell and small pool of water in the bottom of the bivy which pretty much ended my bivy use.
I am thinking about a Borah bivy or trying my hand at MYOG as money, especially at this experimental stage is an issue. My main question is: How is the breathablity and moisture build up with a breathable bivy? What is the best fabric for breathabliity? Borah offers 1.1 dwr, m90, and m50. Are any of these more breathable than another? If there are any breathability issues should I break out my wifes sewing machine and buy some type of uncoated material, if so which is best? Thanks so much for your time.
