If you saw my earlier cooking reports, I did some fancier cooking (omelettes) in Cooking Report #1 and Cooking Report #2 — but I didn’t use the Jetboil Sol’s “cup.” I used a nice MSR Blacklite fry pan.

But, what about the Jetboil Sol’s cup? Is it only good for boiling water? Or can it do a little more?

I thought I’d find out.

Please join me for Aluminum JetBoil Sol — Cooking in the Cup as I try the aluminum Jetboil Sol’s cup out on a hopefully representative trail type meal.

Don't tell JB but before I sold mine I cooked food in both the aluminum pot and the sol ti pot without burning. I also had the old jetboil PCS I think they call it. Whatever the old one is. I was able to turn the flame down so low that you could barely even see it. So low that if you touched the adjuster it probably would have went out.

You ought to give cooking something a little saucier a try. I had success with it and I'm sure you would be able to as well. From the pictures though I don't know if you may be able to get that flame dialed in a little smaller?

Hi, Philip,

I’ve had a Jetboil PCS for about 5 years. The flame control on the PCS is in my opinion much better. I’ve found the flame control in the low range on a Jetboil Sol to be a bit tricky. It took some fiddling to get the flame I wanted.

I think you’re right, though, that I could do a lot more than noodles. There are people who approach the Jetboil as though the only thing it can do is boil water. I wanted to show that a) with the cup you could do more than just boil water, and b) if you used the pot stand, that you could cook darned near anything (see the omelettes in Trail Report #1 and Trail Report #2).
