Getting Campfire Smell Out of WPB Jacket?

I had this same issue with my OR Revel. I just let it hang in the back of my truck (FJ) and after a week or so of driving with the windows down, the smell dissipated into the wind.

LOL alright… I was afraid that was the answer. I wear the coat daily to work, so I've been getting funny looks all week haha

Why would you want to?! That is the best smell in the world, just above leather. Those looks, are looks of jealousy.

Try "Sport_Wash by Sno-Seal". Look in the sporting goods department where ever you shop. Wal*Mart has 18oz bottles for appox $5. I have used it for many years & wash all of my hiking clothes with it.

Has anyone noticed if the breathability of the jacket is affected by smoke? A New Zealand company called Macpac advised that fine particle contamination (smoke from a woodfire) could prevent the jacket from performing as it should. This was confirmed by one of the owners on a Australian forum, Macpac use event for their rain jackets.

I read a recent post hear that smoke from a fire is one of the worst forms of contamination to degrade DWR. With a WPB garment this means the outer shell will wet out quickly.

Interesting – it's been raining here recently (go figure), and I noticed this week that the water wasn't beading up as much. I haven't wetted out yet, but visually it appears to have lost some oomph.

Just my 2 cents…. I have had VERY good luck with using BORAX(20 mule team,don't know what that means, but that is what it says on the box). It is available at almost all grocery stores and big box stores(wally world) It will make not only your WPB smell better, but anything else you wash on a daily basis….That being said, i do not know how it will affect the DWR on the coat..BORAX ROCKS! westcoasthiker

When borax was mined by the ton in Death Valley, it was transported off toward Los Angeles by the most effective means… a twenty mule team pulling wagons. That concept was picked up by commercial producers much later and it became the brand name on the borax package. Among other things, it can be made into fire retardant, glass additives, and water softeners.

Interesting Bob, good to know. I thought it only had one or 2 uses….upon further investigation, it will do allot! Getting back on point though, it works wonders for smelly laundry….i use it all the time for my rank sports gear….people comment on how "fresh" my clothing and gear smells! westcoasthiker
