Some old coleman canisters. I bought them both from wally world about 9 years ago.

Perhaps I should drag myself to the store and grab a new one.

I have been running on medium flame, and turning it up as the performance drops. Then I have to pull the adapter, unscrew the bottom and kind of bonk it clean.

I see this when I use my el-cheapo chinese stove and when I use my pocket rocket. And I now suspect that they gummed up my big old coleman lantern, which stopped working. I haven't gotten to cleaning it yet.

That camp 5 just looks like such a nice water boiler, and I really prefer remote stoves because I seem to end up in windy and rainy campsites. :) I love my alcohol stoves too, and love making them, but when the family is along it is hard to beat a canister stove.

Hunh. I’m stumped. I don’t know why you’d be getting a lot of schumtz in your stove. If you do try a new canister of propane, I’d be curious to see if that makes a difference.

I think the Camp 5 will be fine for smaller pots if you can find firm ground that isn’t too sloping.

HJ, Keith, my old Coleman profane stove from the early '70's always had some oily residual when I took the stove down after using. It was noticeable at the connections. I was using my bulk 5 gal tank. Could be the fuel or lube in batches. I know my bulk propane will get methanol added by the distributor.

"Coleman profane stove"

You have another one of those?

Bob, my two burner propane stove was the first stove I ever had. I bought it at Sprouse-Reitz where I worked, back in the mid '70's in the Lake Tahoe area. I only have a few small isobutane stoves now that use canister fuel or with the new adaptor I bought, profane. Since I've been collecting more interesting stoves the last few years, I sold my two burner stove with the 5 gal. tank and a Coleman 413G.

I had a great two-burner Coleman white gas stove about thirty years ago, and I used it for car camping. One morning, I woke up ahead of the others, opened up the Coleman, and prepared to light it for two big pots of water. I looked for the butane lighter that I always stored inside, but it was nowhere to be found. So, I lit it with a match, set the water pots on, and walked off. About three minutes later, I heard a "KA-BOOM" that echoed around the valley. That was the butane lighter. I guess it was hidden in there until the heat got to it and melted the plastic. It blew so big that it snuffed the burner flames and knocked one water pot off to the ground. That puppy was done, and it wouldn't work again until I tore it down and rebuilt it. Needless to say, I store the butane lighter outside now.
