Whoops, I see I may have put this in the wrong forum. I guess I was thinking about the hunting weights thread that was here (maybe?) a few weeks ago. Mods, please move if you see fit.

I apologize.

Some of your listed weights seem off. For example, half an ounce of cord gets you about six feet of para cord, or about 20 feet of ironwire. And a 1 ounce toboggan?

I assume this is for summer weather, as I don't see much in the way of insulating clothes. What temperatures do you expect?

What kind of game bags, and how many? Will you hang meat, or get it all out in one trip?

Not sure what rangefinder you're using, but I can't imagine it's all that different from the monocular, so why bring the monocular at all?

Some other items you might want to consider that I don't see listed: first-aid/trauma kit, breeze squeeze, cotton ball, or similar (for determining wind direction), spray bottle and citric acid powder, towel, flagging tape, spare battery, license and tags.

Hi Jonathan,

Unfortunately, my scale is not very nice, so not great with small things. The cord is 25' of thin nylon braid, and the toboggan is a single layer power stretch, again, both of these weights may be off slightly. I just weighed them together and it showed just under 3 oz.

The game bags are 4 Alaska game bags – we'll hang the meat if necessary, or pack it in snow or sink it in a creek, all temp and terrain dependent.

Also, the rangefinder is a Nikon, but as you probably know, the optics are cheap 6×20. The monocular is half of a set of nice 8×42 Bushnells, with great optics, that won't give me a headache after 5 minutes of use.

Thanks for the input!

Toss all this in your pack and weigh your loaded pack to see if your totals match. You can get a decent digital kitchen scale at Harbor Freight or Walmart for around 10 bucks.

Thanks Jason – great idea. I've been using that technique for smaller gear, thus the combined weights of some of the items listed. Just finished a <3 oz decoy that I think might be deadly on elk…
