cuben solomid sizing

I had enough space under my solomid using a bivy. I am as tall as you and I didn't touch the walls. There is not too much space right next to the door though.

The duomid will offer you more needed living space in bad weather.

Something else:
The Solo and Duomid can take some wind and snow, but I would rather recommend you the Trailstar.

I would only use the Solo or Duomid below the bushline and not an open and exposed flats in NZ. There is a plethora of information about using the Mids in very strong winds on BPL. There are few more members apart from me who use the trailstar in NZ; I have been fine in the rain. The door is far away and you will have a lot of space under it, especially given the fact that you use a bivy.

I didn't trust my Solomid in strong NZ winds and sold it. Well, it also didn't have enough space for me using a innernet, it would get wet once the door is opened. The trailstar is not fully enclosed, but in my opinion it is either the trailstar or something like the hilleberg akto, aarn pacer or the tera nova tents for true NZ conditions.

On another note, you will experience condensation in any shelter in NZ if the conditions are bad. Make sure that you are comfortable using a bivy in such climates…

At 6'3"..how close are you to the foot and head ends? I keep looking at either the solomid or duomid, but I am 6'4" and am a bit worried about the length.

thanks for the info/insight guys. wander lust, that trailstar has a pretty big foot-print by the looks, to me, it also looks like a bit of pain in the a@$e to set up, i suppose practice makes perfect. i might just stick with my hubba, ill give it some more thought

At 6'4" the Cuben Solo Mid might be a little short but remember that this is a 10 oz shelter so there is always going to be some tradeoff.

I have used the DuoMid in exposed conditions in the Canadian Rockies without issue. Andrew Skurka of course used a SoloMid in extreme exposed areas in Alaska for 4700 miles. He survived. I had a Trailstar but found it a bit too big for one.

I'm 6'2", size long bag, and the solomid is fine (I have the Sil version). My bag does brush the end if I'm not careful or staying slightly diagonal, but it's not a big deal.
