Some things I need that will fluctuate my weight up or down.
-I've just purchased a ULA Circuit, 19oz less than my current pack
-Down Booties, I need em in my hammock, I could probably get down to 15 in my sleeping bag if my feet didn't get cold
-Warmer Sleeping bag, a high quality down bag could probably get me to zero degrees for the same weight of my synthetic now
-Maybe be trading out my vest for a full jacket, might just buy sleeves from JRB
Tear it apart. Ready… GO!

A couple of things jump out at me. 1) your sleep system and shelter are about 6-1/2 lbs, I think that's a lot. Hammock's are nice, but you may want to consider using the tarp with a bivy and then you could lose the under quilt. 2) do you really need 3 hats? I'm hoping to start hiking the AT next spring in large sections. For a Jan/Feb stsrt you will see some snow and cold weather.
Feb 29, 2012 at 10:27 am #1846749If you're going in the spring, you might need some more puffy layer insulation. I'd be cold in just a Zeus vest and fleece layer.
I'd probably want something like a Montbell Alpine light down parka (still only around 12-14 oz.) and then a lighter fleece-like mid to save weight — like Cap 4. But I'm a cold person.

Whoops, the fuzzy hat and beanie aren't both supposed to be there. And my 21oz hammock weight is on an Amazonas Easy traveller with whoopies and bugnet, I think I can cut 10oz or so out of the hammock with my DIY one, as yet unweighed. But yes I see your point, I'm a hanger though, that extra weight is worth it. I think. We'll have to see if my hammocking addiction is greater than my lightweight addiction.
Evan: that parka sure looks warm! Darn you for tempting me…
