I am planning to make a new shell layer – consisting of a supplex jacket and pants – which will worn everywhere, everyday until it wears out. I am experimenting with new designs and I believe that’s the next logical step of my minimalism journey.

Therainshed has many nice colors in 2 ply supplex. click here

I have swatches of all the colors and after playing with them for many weeks, I have narrowed down the choice to dark grey pants and dark grey/ light/ l. Green  jacket. I really like it.

Let me know what you guys think. Other ideas for color schemes are welcome.

I always end up being drawn to anything Black & Red. The Red & White combo is good as well.

Just a thought, which may or may not apply for you in color selection, depending on your typical hiking area …

"Dark colors capture heat and make most people more attractive to mosquitoes. Light colors refract heat and are generally less attractive." – Rutgers Center for Vector Biology (http://www-rci.rutgers.edu/~insects/mosfaq.htm#q4)

Some suggest a color sequence of most attractive to least for mosquito is: black, blue, red, tan, green, yellow and white.

Interesting.

But supplex has a tight weave which is mosquito- proof. So the color choice is more to do with aesthetic which is important because I will be living in it for months.

of course the issue of stealth vs being noticed comes to mind here as well…but thats a diff issue

Not always an issue depending on where you hike but I like lighter colours because you can see the ticks and their ilk a bit easier…..

I tend to like brighter colors on my next to skin layers… While hiking I am always wearing:
-White t-shirt
-White LS Button up
-Khaki Hiking Pants
Keeps sun and skeeters off, plus I just like to look put together (even more so when i'm not really)

But i always have darker outer layers. Browns and blacks mostly.

I'm with Addison. Whiter the better for me. Did a sort of informal experiment on the CT. Hiked into the morning sun w/o a shirt on and got pretty sweaty doing so — threw on my white button down SS and cooled off enough w/ the shirt on that I wasn't sweating any more.
