Slimmer is nicer, but I didn't know there were any calls for stronger locks. Might this just be a urinating contest between BD and Leki?

Since the patent ended in 2010 and Leki all but copied the basic design, BD definitely had to one up.

P*ssing contest or not, I welcome a competition that offers stronger and better products.

"If no one needed it to be stronger or slimmer, then they just increased the weight by 25%."

The poles aren't 25% heavier. Just the locking cams.

Regardless, BD poles with the flick lock are primarily climbing and/ or skiing poles. For the backpacker they offer the 9.2 oz Long distance poles (that's 9.2oz a set).

Be happy.

That's only 4 to 8 more grams per pole for the new design…

They are heavier, but flick locks work so much better than twisted locks IME. Will be interesting if the improved design is noticeable given its reliability already.

Heavier is heavier. This is BPL isn't it? This place is done when members don't care about extra weight that doesn't provide a benefit.

You are just looking for an argument and I am not going to bite and discuss the benefits of the new design.

Have a good evening.

I am still waiting to see a TiGoat / GG style 2-piece carbon pole with a flick-lock style locking mechanism. This is the logical next step and would be the best of 2 worlds, IMGO.

considering the widespread use of trekking poles as a tent support … i dont see the extra 4g as a real issue …

hmmmmm
