Thanks for the head's up on this new style Bill. Good way to keep from over-heating your arms up in insulation; or used as a Summer hiking vest type shirt.

Did ya' get the latest FedEX?

I've been thinking about adding something like this to my sleep system to bring me down a few more degrees in combination with some extra shorts even perhaps. I was thinking about the possum down vest too, though a sleeveless wool shirt (maybe the wool 3 or 4 weight) or something like capilene might be a better pay off from a weight and money point of view.

I love my Wool 2 zip long sleeve. It is an awesome base layer for hiking or running. Expensive (like all great wool) but invaluable to me. I would love it if they came out with
Wool 1. I guess they are doing tests with it. The challenge is making it light enough while still being durable. I may have to pick this sleeveless up, too!

Matthew, interested in your comments re running in your wool2 long sleeve. Have you worn it under a waterproof whilst running? If so I wondered what the moisture transfer is like? I know it depends on how breathable your waterproof is but does the wool2 end up soaked through? How in your experience does it compare to other base layers you have worn under a waterproof jacket?

Cheers Nigel

I have worn the Patagonia Wool 2 zip LS on a few occasions under my waterproof Rainshield O2 Jacket that I use for runs. The temperatures were usually in the 40's and low 50's. I have never had any problems with the Wool 2 getting uncomfortably wet. I am an "average sweater" and the Rainshield is very breathable. Although not durable, I feel that other jackets don't breathe well enough for running. The Wool 2 transfers moisture as well as anything I have tried and allows me to cool down slowly after I stop. While it doesn't wick or dry as quickly as thin synthetics like Capilene 1, I have never been soggy in the least. It keeps me nice and warm without being damp. Plus, I love the long zipper in the front. I usually pull this down most of the way to stay even cooler. I think this shirt would work very well for runners with cool to average temperatures and under a relatively breathable jacket. It has been an awesome addition to my gear closet.

Am sure to buy one of these. Do you a sense of how this product or wool 1 (is there such a thing) would work in hot climates? thanks.

I have worn the Wool 2 long sleeve top into the seventies for hikes and runs and been comfortable. I lowered the zipper some on runs but I was not too hot. I don't think I would wear it too much higher, however. I don't have the sleeveless version so that could really change matters however. At much above 80 degrees, I would go with either Capilene 1 or a Railriders top. However, the Wool 1 is supposed to be able to go up into the 80s or maybe higher. Patagonia was planning on coming out with it but because it is so thin, they are trying to get the durability where it should be. I would imagine they are still planning to once the bugs are worked out. They aren't going to rush a product out just to get it out there. I am looking forward to seeing if that top could finally be a hot weather wool option. I haven't found any wool product that I can wear for 85+ degrees and really work it without getting too hot.

Hey Mathew,
Really appreciate the thoughtful reply. I am going to try the wool 2 as part of my PCT system. Sounds perfect for colder days and as my second layer in the evening. Much appreciated. Ben

I received the new Patagonia Men's #2 Wool Sleeveless this afternoon. I wore it for my walk tonight. It fits and feels fine. Patagonia says it weighs 3.5 ounces and my scale says 3.45 – size M. Nice when things come in a little under weight.

I am thinking about turning it into a Sleevless Hoody.
